Common questions
This guide covers the upcoming iPhone and iPad app.
How do I start a game?
The app opens to computer play and remembers the last player name you used. Choose computer, same-device, or online play. Open Game Settings to change the minimum word length (3+, 4+, 5+, 6+, or 7+), claim timer, and—when playing the computer—Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced difficulty.
Can I play on iPhone and iPad?
Yes. Play on either iPhone or iPad. Share one device for face-to-face play, challenge the computer offline, or invite a friend online using another iPhone or iPad. Each device keeps its own local match history; it does not automatically sync.
Can I play without internet?
Yes. Same-device play and computer games work offline. Games across two devices and voice chat require internet access. Bluetooth play is not supported.
How do claims and steals work?
Use letters from the shared pool to make a word that meets your selected minimum length. Tap I Found a Word and begin selecting letters immediately. A brief 3…2…1… Cancel Claim window protects against accidental taps; the claim continues automatically if you do not cancel. Use Clear to restart your selection. When the assembled word becomes valid, tap the word itself to claim it. If you cannot finish, tap I Can’t Find the Word 😢.
To steal, use every letter of an existing word and add available letters to build a different word. Simply adding S is not a valid steal. Words already used in the round cannot be reused, even after being stolen or transformed. An unsuccessful claim can cost you one of your own words.
How are scores and winners decided?
Valid words shorter than seven letters score one point; words with seven or more letters score two. The highest score wins. Total letters break a tied score; if those also tie, the game is a draw. Ending a game early still tallies the current scores and records the result.
Can I change the timer or minimum word length?
Yes. Expand Game Settings before starting. Choose a 3+, 4+, 5+, 6+, or 7+ letter minimum and set the claim timer. The default summary shows Intermediate, 4+ letters, and a 20-second time out for computer play.
Why are some letters turned sideways or upside down?
That is part of the challenge. Newly flipped tiles can face left, right, up, or down in every game mode, like loose tiles on a real table.
How does my friend join an online game?
Create an online game and share its invitation link privately with your friend. If Versa Squabble Duo is installed, opening a supported invitation link can take your friend into the app with the game identifier. They can also open the app, choose Have an invitation, and paste the current link. Both devices must be connected to the internet. If an old or ended game appears, copy the invitation from your current game again.
How do I use voice chat?
During an online game, both players join voice and allow microphone access when asked. Check mute, volume, and any connected headphones. If microphone access was denied, enable it for the app in device Settings. Headphones help prevent echo when devices are nearby. Some moving, weak, or restrictive networks can interrupt the direct connection; try a stable network. Voice is optional and is not recorded by the app.
Where is my match history stored?
Completed results include player names, scores, and the date and time. History and head-to-head records are saved locally on each device. They do not automatically sync across your devices. Deleting the app can erase that history.
How much will the app cost?
The planned US App Store price is $4.99 as a one-time app purchase, with no subscription or in-app purchases planned. The app is preparing for release. Local pricing and taxes may vary; check the App Store for the final price.
